Everyone has driven or walked past a forlorn and unloved historic building at some time. You may have wondered why it isn’t being used or why doesn’t someone do something with it? The answer is often complex and the solutions equally so. It takes a special group of people to identify a way forward and restore these buildings to the benefit of the community.
Scottish Historic Buildings Trust (SHBT) is a dynamic and innovative charity that does just that. It is dedicated to regenerating significant historic buildings for the benefit of others.
Scottish Historic Buildings Trust is plays a unique role in preserving and promoting the nations heritage. With a small team and no public funding we have already restored over 30 buildings and raised in excess of £25 million.
WHAT WE DO
Our team have specialist skills in historic building preservation, fundraising and expertise in interpretation. The Trust collaborates with local communities and others to preserve at risk significant properties in Scotland.

CUSTOMS HOUSE LEITH
At the heart of Leith’s distinct heritage is the Custom House building. SHBT is working alongside the community and authorities to ensure Custom House can be restored to serve the locality in a meaningful and sustainable way. Since SHBT took on Custom House, is already becoming a bustling centre for creative industries serving the local community.
